Sevilla to come off second-best against Barcelona
2201

Sevilla bring a six-match unbeaten sequence in La Liga into this upcoming clash against league leaders, Barcelona, and the hosts will no doubt fancy their chances of getting something out of this tussle on Friday night.

Friday’s hosts have won three of these six matches with victories over Getafe, Osasuna and Real Betis and have also picked up points in draws with Espanyol, Atletico Madrid and Levante which has helped Sevilla into 3rd place and four points above Getafe who hold the 5th spot.

Sevilla will be keen therefore to grab at least a point here and having put together a six-match unbeaten run at home too, the hosts stand a decent chance but they’ll be up against a highly motivated Barcelona outfit who are locked in a duel with their fierce rivals, Real Madrid, for the La Liga title.

Results at home to date have seen Sevilla pick up W7, D5 and L2 but they’ve come off second best in recent exchanges against Barcelona as they’ve lost their last three encounters on the trot in heavy 4-0, 4-2 and 6-1 defeats respectively.

Onto Barcelona, and they head into this weekend’s La Liga action holding a two-point lead at the top of the Spanish top flight over their rivals, Real Madrid, who kept up the pressure on the league leaders by recording a 3-0 win over Valencia last night.

Real Madrid also inflicted a 2-0 home win over Barcelona just before the season was put on hold, but otherwise, Barcelona have been in good nick by winning seven of their last eight matches overall in La Liga.

This impressive string of victories have helped the visitors stave off Real Madrid’s challenge for the league title so far, but they know they can’t afford any slip-ups in Seville on Friday night.

Results away from home have been a little patchy though for Barca as they’ve registered wins at Real Betis and Mallorca but have also slipped to defeats at Valencia and Real Madrid as well, so they’ll be keen to ensure they avoid another loss here.

More importantly, Barcelona also seem to be able to find another gear when faced with adversity and the visitors are more than capable of inflicting another heavy defeat on their hosts, as they’ve done in their last three encounters.
