Can Eintracht Frankfurt end Werder Bremen’s revival?
4830

A resurgent Werder Bremen will be looking to extend their three-game unbeaten run when Eintracht Frankfurt the Weserstadion on Wednesday night.

Werder remain in the automatic relegation places – six points clear of bottom club Paderborn – but a win would see them leapfrog Fortuna Dusseldorf into the relegation playoff spot.

Florian Kohfeldt’s men have been immense since the restart. Sure, they suffered a heavy defeat to Bayer Leverkusen in their first game back. But they have since beaten Freiburg and Schalke, as well as securing an impressive draw against high-flying Borussia Monchengladbach.

Despite only managing two shots on target in their previous games, Bremen dominated Schalke. The River Islanders recorded 59% possession at the Veltins-Arena and claimed all three points thanks to a spectacular long-range strike from Leonardo Bittencourt.

Seven points from a possible 12 since the season resumed have given Werder a genuine chance of escaping relegation. However, with just six wins from 28 league games in 2019/20, is it a case of too little, too late?

On the other hand, Eintracht have enjoyed a mixed bag of results since the restart. Heavy defeats to Gladbach and Bayern Munich were followed by a 3-3 draw with Freiburg.

Still, despite only registering six shots to Wolfsburg’s 16, and seeing less of the ball, Frankfurt claimed a vital 2-1 victory over the Wolves last time out. Andre Silva put them ahead from the penalty spot before Daichi Kamada score a late winner.

This result lifted Eintracht to 12th in the table. But Adi Hutter’s side are only five points clear of the bottom three, so they are far from safe when it comes to relegation.

The two teams played out a 2-2 draw in the reverse fixture earlier in the campaign, although it’s fair to say that Frankfurt have the upper hand in the recent head-to-head record.

Eintracht have lost just four of their previous 18 meetings with Werder. However, it’s also important to remember that both teams have scored in each of the last seven games between the two teams.

Werder will be without the injured quartet of Kevin Mohwald, Milos Veljkovic, Niclas Fullkrug, and Omer Toprak on Wednesday, while the visitors will be missing Stefan Ilsanker through injury.

Bremen have been on a decent run since the campaign resumed, but Frankfurt will be looking to assert their dominance in this game and steer clear of the bottom three.

Judging by recent trends, both teams are likely to score. But Forebet predicts that Eintracht will score over 2.5 goals on their way to victory.
