Bayer Leverkusen expected to see off Wolfsburg

Bayer Leverkusen will be looking to extend their unbeaten run to eight games when Wolfsburg visit BayArena on Tuesday evening.

Peter Bosz’s side returned from the break with a 4-1 hammering over Werder Bremen before leapfrogging Borussia Monchengladbach into the top four with 3-1 win last time out.

Fourth-place Leverkusen are now one point ahead of Gladbach and only one point behind third-place RB Leipzig.

Bayer have won six of their last seven Bundesliga games and also picked up an impressive away draw at Leipzig during that time.

Kai Havertz has been in red-hot form since the break, netting a brace in both of Leverkusen’s recent wins. In fact, the 20-year-old has six goals and three assists in his last six league outings.

Meanwhile, Wolfsburg are stuck in the sixth. With a whopping 14-point gap between them and Leverkusen, hopes of a top-four finish are all but over.

The Wolves needed an injury-time winner to get the better of struggling Augsburg in their first game back, before losing 2-0 to Borussia Dortmund last time out.

Despite notching up twice as many shots as Dortmund, Oliver Glasner’s men failed to make the most of their opportunities and were made to pay.

The head-to-head record between these two teams doesn’t look pretty for Wolfsburg. The Wolves have only managed to win one of their previous eight league meetings with Leverkusen.

Bayer beat Wolfsburg 2-0 in the reverse fixture earlier in the campaign and claimed a convincing 3-0 victory in their meeting before that.

Overall, Leverkusen haven’t failed to score against Wolfsburg since all the way back in 2011. Since then, Leverkusen have scored over 1.5 goals on 11 occasions in this fixture.

When you couple Leverkusen’s recent form with their record in this fixture, it doesn’t look good for Wolfsburg.

Looking at the team news, Kevin Volland and Lars Bender are both expected to miss out again on Tuesday. The Leverkusen pair haven’t featured since the break due to injury.

Wolfsburg be without long-term absentees Ignacio Camacho and William, while left-back Paulo Otavio is a major doubt after picking up an ankle injury.

The Wolves have been solid throughout 2019/20, so they won’t go down without a fight in this match. However, Leverkusen should be far too strong on Tuesday.

Forebet predicts that Bayer Leverkusen will score over 2.5 goals on their way to victory, with Wolfsburg also getting on the scoresheet.
