A 0-0 draw away from home at Slavia Mozyr not only saw Torpedo Zhodino pick up a useful point on the road but it also extended Torpedo Zhodino’s unbeaten run to five matches in the Vysshaya Liga, as the hosts currently sit in 3rd spot.
Recent wins against Energetyk-BGU 2-0 on home turf at their Stadyen Tarpeda and a rousing 5-2 victory away from home at FC Minsk have been built upon an improving defensive unit which has contributed to three draws with BATE, Rukh Brest and the aforementioned Slavia, all in 0-0 stalemates.
Early season back-to-back wins against Shakhtyor Soligorsk and Belshina gave Zhodino the perfect start to this season’s Vysshaya Liga campaign and although they went down to a 2-0 loss on the road at Dinamo Minsk, the hosts have been hard to beat since.
Zhodino’s solid defensive unit have conceded just 2 goals in their last 5 matches overall and they’ve still yet to be breached on home turf at their Stadyen Tarpeda to date this term.
Gorodeya occupy a more modest looking 11th place in the Belarus top flight as the visitors have struggled for consistency in these early weeks of this new domestic top flight campaign, winning 3, drawing 2 and losing 3 to date this term.
However, following a disastrous start to the new season which resulted in back-to-back defeats against Vitebsk and Shakhtyor Soligorsk, Gorodeya have since pulled their socks up as they’ve lost just 1 of their subsequent 6 matches overall in the Vysshaya Liga.
That defeat came in the shape of a 2-0 loss at home to Vysshaya Liga leaders, BATE, but subsequent back-to-back draws with Rukh Brest and FC Minsk, both in 1-1 stalemates, have helped steady the ship.
With just 2 defeats out of their last 8 matches on the road as well, Gorodeya have proved to be stubborn opponents on their travels in the Belarus top flight, and this solid sequence of results include keeping 5 clean sheets.
In addition, 11 of Gorodeya’s last 14 matches away from home have resulted in under 2.5 goals, so this trend could continue at Zhodino on Friday.
Torpedo Zhodino and Gorodeya have been hard to shift in recent weeks and the defences could come out on top in this clash, resulting in a low-scoring affair.
