Energetyk look to have the edge over Smolevichi

Energetyk look to have the edge over Smolevichi

It’s been a season of two halves so far for Energetyk-BGU as they prepare for Friday night’s clash with second from bottom outfit, Smolevichi, at their Stadyen RTsOP-BGU, as  the home side look to avoid a fourth defeat on the trot.

By contrast, Energetyk-BGU had started the new Belarus top flight season in explosive fashion by winning their first 3 Vysshaya Liga matches on the trot with victories gained over BATE 3-1, Rukh Brest 1-0 away and a 2-0 home win over FC Minsk.

However, three defeats on the bounce have followed subsequently as Energetyk-BGU have been handed losses by Torpedo Zhodino, Gorodeya and Neman Grodno, but the hosts have a golden opportunity to rectify this situation with the visit of Vysshaya Liga strugglers, Smolevichi, this Friday.

Energetyk-BGU have also produced steady form at home in the Belarus top flight as they’ve lost just 1 of their last 7 matches, a sequence which includes 5 wins while forward, Yaxshiboev (3 goals) looks the most likely to notch for the hosts in this clash.

Smolevichi currently occupy second from bottom in the Vysshaya Liga and still remain without a league win to date in this season’s Belarus top flight campaign as they seek to open their account in Friday’s visit to the Stadyen RTsOP-BGU.

The visitors have picked up just 3 points from their opening 6 matches of this season’s Vysshaya Liga courtesy of draws with Dinamo Brest, Shakhtyor Soligorsk and Belshina, while losses to Isloch Minsk, Vitebsk and Dinamo Minsk have meant that Smolevichi sit in the early automatic relegation spots.

It’s still early days of course, but early indications suggest this could be a long and tough campaign ahead for Smolevichi who have managed to register just 1 win out of their last 17 matches overall in the Belarus top flight, which was achieved with a 1-0 win on the road at Dnepr Mogilev back in September 2018.

Indeed, Smolevichi have recorded just 2 wins out of their last 25 matches overall in the Vysshaya Liga.

Despite Energetyk’s recent slump in results, this upcoming trip to the Stadyen RTsOP-BGU doesn’t bode well for the visitors, especially as Smolevichi have failed to win any of their last 7 matches on their travels.
