Manchester City aim to end Manchester United’s unbeaten run

Manchester City and Manchester United will meet for the fourth time this season when they headline Sunday’s Premier League matches.

The two sides could meet once more this season in the FA Cup as both sides are still alive in the competition after they progressed to the quarterfinals in midweek. Manchester City defeated Sheffield Wednesday while the Red Devils downed Derby County.

Now, Manchester United will aim to win for a third time this season against Manchester City. The Red Devils shocked Manchester City in December at the Etihad Stadium 2-1 in the league. Pep Guardiola’s team got revenge in the League Cup winning the tie 3-2.

The Cityzens have won back to back games in the league. They have found form in recent weeks after last suffering a Premier League loss to Tottenham Hotspur 2-0 away from home. Manchester City won their last two Premier League games by a combined score of 3-0 against West Ham and Leicester City.

Manchester United are three points off the top four. They will have a lot of pressure on their shoulders as Chelsea play hours prior to the kick off at Old Trafford. The Red Devils are on a four-game unbeaten run although they narrowly avoided defeat at Everton last weekend thanks to VAR.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has several players fighting for fitness for the match. Daniel James, Aaron Wan-Bissaka, and Harry Maguire are all three recovering from injury issues. All three could return for the game.

The biggest loss for Manchester United is Marcus Rashford who was key in their league win over Manchester City at the Etihad earlier this term. His absence hasn’t had as big of an impact on the side thanks to Bruno Fernandes’ arrival.

Guardiola is once again without Aymeric Laporte. The centre-back sustained a hamstring injury at the end of February and is recouping from the setback. Kevin De Bruyne is listed as a doubt for the game due to a shoulder injury.

Manchester City may have fallen in the first match against Manchester United in the league but should get revenge on Sunday. The pressure on Manchester United and potential absences of Wan-Bissaka and Maguire should doom the home team to a loss.

Expect under 2.5 goals and the Red Devils to struggle in front of goal. Fernandes should find it difficult to create goals against one of the top Premier League teams.
