On Thursday night, Dutch team AZ Alkmaar host Austrian outfit LASK Linz at the AFAS Stadion in the Europa League last-32 first-leg.

AZ have been enjoying a strong domestic campaign in the Eredivisie, as they are currently second place in the table, trailing reigning champions Ajax by six points. However, despite their lofty position in the Dutch top-flight, the home side has suffered back-to-back defeats against NAC Breda in the Dutch Cup before a 2-0 league loss at FC Twente last time out.

Arne Slot’s team have also enjoyed a very good campaign in the Europa League, as the home side has suffered just one loss in their last 13 games in the competition. In fact, a 4-0 defeat at Premier League Manchester United last time out ended a 12-game unbeaten run in the Europa League for AZ.

Their recent Europa League games have certainly been entertaining affairs, as AZ’s last four games in the competition have produced over 2.5 goals.

AZ are unbeaten in seven home games in Europe’s secondary competition. However, four of their last six home matches in Europe have finished in draws.

LASK returned from their winter break last weekend with a potentially vital 3-2 victory over title rivals Salzburg to move to the top of the Bundesliga table. Like their opponents, the Austrian team are enjoying a successful season at home and abroad.

In fact, LASK have won five of their last seven games in the Europa League dating back to last season. The Austrian team has also recorded three straight European wins, having scored at least two goals in all three victories.

One negative for the visitors is that they have won just once in their last four away matches in the Europa League.
