They say the table doesn’t lie. And if that is the case, then things went very much according to plan in the Bundesliga on Matchday 22. The top five teams all claimed victories, while the bottom three suffered defeats. Meanwhile, there were plenty of goals, as only one game ended goalless.

Dortmund thrashed Frankfurt to kick off the weekend’s Bundesliga action. Teenage sensations Erling Haaland and Jadon Sancho both got on the scoresheet again, while there were also goals for Lukasz Piszczek and Raphael Guirreiro. Eintracht failed to register a single shot on target as Dortmund scored over three goals for the fourth time in five league games.
Saturday’s Round-Up
Leipzig remain just one point behind league-leaders Bayern Munich after comfortably beating Werder 3-0. Goals from Lukas Klostermann and Patrik Schick gave RB a two-goal lead going into half-time before Nordi Mukiele completed to scoring early in the second half.
Despite having 20 shots and enjoying the lion’s share of the possession, Freiburg were held to a 1-1 draw by Augsburg. Philip Max put the home side ahead, while Janik Haberer levelled for Freiburg to keep his team within touching distance of the European places.
Wout Weghorst netted a hat-trick as Wolfsburg got the better of Hoffenheim in a five-goal thriller. Christoph Baumgartner and Andrej Kramaric both scored for the hosts, but Wolfsburg’s win moved them within two points of Hoffenheim.
Hertha claimed a much-needed victory over bottom club Paderborn at the Benteler Arena. Dedryck Boyata gave Hertha the lead, but Dennis Srbeny equalised for Paderborn just after the break. However, a Jamilu Collins own goal saw Hertha claim all three points.
Bayer Leverkusen came from behind to beat union Berlin and secure their fourth win in five games. Christian Gentner put Union in front before Kai Havertz levelled. Moussa Diaby then scored on 83 minutes, but Marius Bulter netted moments later. Then, in the 94th minute, Karim Bellarabi scored a dramatic late winner for Bayer.
Monchengladbach completed Saturday’s action by hammering Fortuna in their own backyard. A Lars Stindl brace, along with goals from Jonas Hofmann and Florian Neuhaus, handed the away side a comfortable win. Erik Thommy grabbed Dusseldorf’s only goal.
Super Sunday
Robert Lewandowski, Kingsley Coman and Serge Gnabry all scored within the opening 12 minutes to take the game away from FC Koln early on. Gnabry netted his second and Bayern’s fourth midway through the second half, while Mark Uth bagged a late consolation for the hosts.
In the only goalless tie of the round, struggling Mainz held European hopefuls Schalke at the Coface Arena. The draw sees Mainz move five points clear of the bottom three, while Schalke are sixth following three consecutive stalemates.
