Can Lille continue winning streak versus Marseille?
2993

Lille host Marseille in a top-four battle in Ligue 1 on Sunday night. The home side are fourth in Ligue 1 and three points ahead of fifth-placed Montpellier in the chase for Champions League qualification.

Marseille are second in Serie A and nine points above Lille. Although Andre Villas-Boas' team are solidly in the Champions League qualification places, they are 22 points off of top side Paris Saint-Germain. Villas-Boas' mission is to now keep ahold of Champions League qualification at Marseille.

Villa-Boas' team are unbeaten in 16 of their last 17 games in all competitions. That one loss came in midweek in the French Cup to Lyon, 1-0.

Lille have not been in quite as good of form as Marseille. However, they have won three straight games in Ligue 1 winning two of those matches to nil.

The two French Ligue 1 rivals last played in November with Marseille winning 2-1 at home. All three goals came in the second half as Lille’s Gabriel scored an own goal after Marseille’s Morgan Sansone opened the scoring in the 47th minute.

Lille’s Adama Soumaoro pulled a goal back in the 83rd minute. The final seven minutes of the game was exciting and Sunday’s match should be just as thrilling.

Marseille are unbeaten in eight of their last 10 matches versus Lille in Ligue 1. The south coast club have been excellent versus Lille. However, the away side are in-form heading into the weekend.

Lille have lost just once at Stade Pierre Mauroy and will be difficult to defeat when Marseille arrive on Sunday night. Marseille are unbeaten in their last six road games.

They are without three of their top players on Sunday, however. Midfielders Dmitri Payet, Dario Benedetto, and Florian Thauvin are all set to miss out on the match.

Payet has a hamstring injury and a timeline is unknown to when he will be back. Benedetto is listed day to day and could recover just in time for the game. Thauvin has been injured all season and doesn’t appear to be fit to feature yet.

Lille have major injury issues in the attack as star striker Victor Osimhen (12 goals) is listed injured. He is only a doubt at the moment and could return in time for a major boost. Timothy Weah and Saad Agouzoul are both back in training but could miss out due to fitness.

Can Marseille continue their great form? They will struggle away from home and will drop points to a good Lille team that continue to improve. Lille will win at home with under 2.5 goals going into the back of the net.
