Bristol City to enhance play-off credentials against Birmingham
2925

Friday night’s televised fixture in the Championship pits the wits of the west country outfit Bristol City and the west midlands club, Birmingham City, with both teams in need of the precious three points at stake but for differing reasons in both ends of the table.

Bristol City’s previously flagging ambitions for a place in the play-offs were in jeopardy after suffering four defeats on the trot in the second tier to Millwall, Blackburn Rovers, Sheffield Wednesday and Charlton Athletic, but their fortunes have been well and truly revived in recent times as The Robins have won 5 of their subsequent 6 matches.

This rejuvenation in form has helped lift Bristol City back into 6th place and a spot in the play-off pack so the hosts will no doubt be keen to hang onto this when they entertain an inconsistent Birmingham City outfit at Ashton Gate.

Results at home though haven’t all gone Bristol City’s way as they’ve lost 3 of their last 5 at home but overall confidence has been boosted by their recent run of 4 wins on the trot.

Birmingham City surpassed all expectations last Saturday when they registered what seemed to be a highly unlikely 2-1 home win against Nottingham Forest which extended The Blues’ unbeaten run to 6 matches in all competitions.

Particularly impressive was the fact that Birmingham came from a goal down to record a much-needed win, and although it wasn’t pretty, Birmingham grabbed a vital three points in their quest to avoid being dragged further down to the lower reaches of the Championship.

The visitors now hold an important 8-point cushion over third from bottom side, Wigan Athletic, prior to this weekend’s action, and they’ll make their way down to Bristol having suffered just 1 defeat out of their last 7 matches on their travels as The Blues have made themselves hard to beat on the road of late.

However, the fact remains that Birmingham have managed to collect just 2 away wins out of their last 11 matches in the Championship and they’re likely to face a tough task in getting anything out of a resurgent Bristol City side at Ashton Gate this Friday night.

Bristol City’s recent winning momentum along with home advantage should just about see The Robins over the line here.
