Manager Carlo Ancelotti has worked his magic at Goodison Park as Everton are up to 12th in the Premier League. The Toffees are unbeaten in five of their last six games heading into the weekend versus 19th-place Watford.
The Hornets have also been re-energised by a new manager as Nigel Pearson has given them hope of a relegation survival. Watford have 23 point from 72 possible and are level with 17th-place West Ham. They sit in the relegation zone, however, due to goal difference.
The relegation fight is exciting with seven points separating 19th-place Watford and 10th-place Arsenal. Pearson and his players will be confident of getting a result after five straight league home matches without a defeat. The Hornets have taken 11 of 18 points in their last six matches.
Ancelotti is still working on improving Everton’s away form. It is getting better as the Toffees have collected five points from their last 12 possible. Overall, Everton have taken a mere nine points from 36 on the road. However, Saturday’s game at Vicarage Road should continue to see strong away play.
Everton players Gylfi Sigurdsson, Alex Iwobi, and Richarlison should all be available to Ancelotti. It is striker Dominic Calvert-Lewin who is Everton’s most in-form player.
Calvert-Lewin has 10 goals in 22 league matches. The striker has scored five goals in his last six league games. He is good value to score again this weekend.
Everton could sell Richarlison to Barcelona this month. The Spanish team is seeking a forward to replace Luis Suarez and after consistent poor transfers for forwards, Barcelona now have their eyes on Richarlison.
Pearson is getting players back from injury but it remains to be seen whether any of these players will be fit to play versus Everton. Tom Cleverly, Ismaila Sarr, Nathaniel Chalobah, Danny Welbeck, and Will Hughes could all feature in the first-team squad.
Watford will be without Daryl Janmaat, Sebastian Prodl, and Kiko Femenia. Their absences will be a big blow to Pearson’s defence.
The two clubs have already met twice this season in league and cup matches and Everton won both of the fixtures. Saturday’s match at Vicarage Road should see Everton win for a third time this season versus Watford.
The Toffees have kept back to back clean sheets against Watford and should do it again. Expect under 2.5 goals as Everton win to nil away from home.
