Leicester and Chelsea set for top-four showdown

Third-place Leicester City host fourth-place Chelsea on Saturday with Frank Lampard’s men sitting eight points behind the Foxes in the Premier League table.

Leicester come into this game on the back of a disappointing EFL Cup semi-final exit to Aston Villa. Despite Brendan Rodgers’ side notching up 22 attempts and enjoying the majority of the possession, Villa netted an injury-time winner.

It’s fair to say that Leicester have been stuttering a bit of late. Back-to-back defeats to Southampton and Burnley were followed up by a 4-1 victory against West Ham. Leicester than scraped past Brentford in the FA Cup before crashing out of the Carabao Cup.

However, Rodgers’ side remain firmly in the top four – 14 points clear of fifth-place Manchester United with an excellent goal difference.

Chelsea have also been fairly inconsistent in recent weeks. But thanks to the lack of competition from teams outside the top four, the Blues are sitting comfortably in the Champions League places.

Lampard’s side have only managed to win one of their previous four league games and have suffered four defeats in their last nine. Still, Chelsea secured a 2-1 victory over Hull City in the FA Cup last time out.

With Man Utd, Tottenham, Wolves and Sheffield United all struggling for consistency, Chelsea are still six points inside the top four.

The Blues have actually picked up the majority of their points on the road this season and have struggled at Stamford Bridge. Having said that, Leicester have been excellent at the King Power Stadium and have lost just two of their 12 Premier League home games in 2019/20.

The two teams played out a 1-1 draw earlier in the season. Mason Mount put Chelsea ahead early on before Wilfred Ndidi rescued a point for Leicester in the second half.

However, Chelsea have failed to beat Leicester in their previous three meetings – the Foxes claiming one victory and two draws during that time.

Jamie Vardy made his return from the bench in the EFL Cup, but it’s unclear whether or not he’ll start this weekend. Kelechi Iheanacho could lead the line for Leicester again.

As for Chelsea, Tammy Abraham could feature after sitting out Chelsea’s FA Cup win last weekend. The striker was injured in the draw with Arsenal.

Eight points separate the two teams in the table and this is down to Leicester being far more consistent than Chelsea this season.

Forebet predicts that Leicester will score over 2.5 goals on their way to victory on Saturday.
