Cardiff to half West Brom’s promotion charge

Slaven Bilic’s West Brom have emerged as one of the favourites for promotion this season from the Championship to the Premier League. The Baggies head into Tuesday’s trip to Cardiff top of the table and looking to extend their lead.

Despite a poor recent run of form, the visitors are a point clear of second-place Leeds and four points clear of Fulham in third-place. The priority is to stay in the league’s top-two to ensure automatic promotion.

However, things have not gone to plan in recent Championship matches for the visitors. In fact, Slaven Bilic’s team have now gone six league games without a win after a surprise 1-0 defeat at home to Stoke in their last outing. The loss to the Potters means that the visitors have failed to keep a clean sheet in their last nine matches in the English second tier.

A record of just one win in their last eight league outings is a record more associated with teams fighting for their lives, not teams looking to win promotion and even be crowned champions.

Cardiff may still have an outside chance of making the Championship play-offs this season. However, the Bluebirds have slipped seven points off the top-six after a poor recent run of form, much like the visitors in many ways.

Neil Harris’ team have won just once in their last eight league outings. Last time out, Birmingham City held the home side to a 1-1 draw at St Andrew's.

One positive for the team from the Welsh capital is their Championship form at the Cardiff City Stadium, as they have suffered just one home league defeat in 15 matches dating back to last season.

Forebet predicts that this game will provide more frustration for both teams, finishing in a low-scoring draw.
