Luton Town will be desperate to pull themselves out of their current dismal situation when they play host to Derby County at Kenilworth Road on Tuesday night, having lost their last 4 matches on the trot in the Championship.
After losing these last 4 matches on the trot, and indeed, 7 of their last 8 matches overall, Luton find themselves bottom of the Championship and 8 points adrift of fourth from bottom side, Huddersfield Town and safety prior to this midweek clash.
Recent defeats to Bristol City, Millwall, Birmingham City and Nottingham Forest aren’t the best preparation for attempting to claim a precious three points here, but it should be noted that 3 of these 4 losses were incurred away from home.
The Hatters have won 4 of their total of 6 wins to date in the second tier at their Kenilworth Road ground though, so Luton know that gaining results at home remains their best chance of what is becoming almost certain relegation.
If nothing else though, there’s great entertainment at Kenilworth Road as 11 of Luton’s 13 home matches have resulted in over 2.5 goals.
Derby County’s revival under manager Phillip Cocu continued last time out in the Championship when The Rams secured a valuable three points with a 1-0 home win against Hull City at Pride Park, which became Derby’s third win in four matches.
Earlier wins against Charlton Athletic and Barnsley were welcome additions as well as they not only steered Derby away from the bottom three but also put daylight between themselves and the teams fighting out the desperate relegation battle below them.
However, all three of Derby’s recent wins were all recorded on home turf at Pride Park where The Rams have lost just twice all season, but it’s a very different story for Derby when they go on their travels.
With just 1 away win from their 13 away matches played to date in this campaign, as well as failing to win any of their last 12 matches on the road, Derby just can’t be trusted to grab all three points here this Tuesday night, albeit against a seemingly down and out Luton Town side.
Instead, 8 of Derby’s 13 away matches have resulted in over 2.5 goals and the goals market looks the best option ahead of this clash at Kenilworth Road.
