Napoli host Fiorentina on Saturday at the San Paolo. Neither team has had a very good season and both sit in the bottom half of the table.
A win for manager Gennaro Gattuso and his players will send Napoli into the top half of the table depending on results elsewhere. Napoli sacked manager Carlo Ancelotti for his poor results at the club but Gattuso has done nothing to turn the team around.
Napoli have lost three of their last four Serie A matches. Last weekend saw Napoli lose 1-0 to Lazio in Rome.
Fiorentina are struggling for the second straight season in Serie A. They sit in 14th place with 21 points from 57 possible. The club has picked up four points from their last six possible in Serie A.
The Viola have struggled for goals with just 23 scored. Their defence has kept them in games this season as just 29 goals have been conceded. Fiorentina have signed former AC Milan striker Patrick Cutrone from Wolverhampton Wanderers this month.
The road has not been kind to Fiorentina. They have collected just nine points from 27 possible. They have not won their last four matches away from the Artemio Franchi with three of those fixtures ending in losses.
Napoli’s home record has been dreadful in 2019-20. The Partenopei have taken 11 of 27 points possible at home. They have lost three consecutive matches in Serie A. Gattuso’s team is 10 points above the relegation zone. They are just five points away from the top six and the European qualification places.
Fiorentina are now seven points above the relegation zone. If they can keep picking up points, they will separate themselves from the bottom three.
Napoli’s Mario Rui is suspended while Kalidou Koulibaly and Nikola Maksimovic are still recovering from injury. Goalkeeper Alex Meret and Dries Mertens also look set to miss out due to injury.
Five of the last 10 matches in all competitions between Napoli and Fiorentina have finished with over 2.5 goals scored. Five of those 10 matches have also seen both teams score goals. Expect Saturday’s game to also see both teams score and over 2.5 goals go into the net as Napoli win at home.
