Paris Saint-Germain to cruise past Monaco

Ligue 1 front-runners Paris Saint-Germain will welcome seventh-place Monaco on Sunday night to the Parc des Prince. Seventeen points separate the two French clubs in the table. With a lack of competition, Paris Saint-Germain look nailed on to win another Ligue 1 title this term.

Monaco last defeated Paris Saint-Germain in the 2016-17 season. That season saw Monaco come from nowhere to win Ligue 1 and break-up Paris Saint-Germain from consistently winning the title.

The principality club followed up their title by selling off their best players over the course of two straight summer transfer windows. Last season, Monaco were a shell of their former self as they fought relegation.

In December, Monaco once again sacked head coach Leonardo Jardim and replaced him with former Spain national team No. 2 Robert Moreno.

The new head coach has overseen just one match in charge and that was a Coupe de France win over Reims. Sunday’s trip to Paris will be a far different proposition for the new coach.

Paris Saint-Germain do not have any new injury issues heading into the weekend. The big news surrounds the potential transfers of two Paris Saint-Germain stars.

Edinson Cavani is likely to leave as several clubs including Manchester United have reportedly launched transfer bids. The other news surrounds Kylian Mbappe as it is speculated, he could leave Paris sooner rather than later.

Liverpool have been linked heavily with Mbappe this week despite the move making no sense. It is claimed Liverpool’s new Nike kit contract could be part of the deal that brings Mbappe to Merseyside.

Monaco’s away form has been their downfall this season. They have taken just nine points from 27 possible on their travels. Monaco have collected four points from their last six possible away from home. So, there is a slight glimmer of hope for Moreno.

Paris Saint-Germain have collected 24 points from 27 possible at the Parc des Prince. Five straight league matches have ended in wins for Paris Saint-Germain. Four of their last five home games have ended in a win to nil.

Thomas Tuchel’s team did the double over Monaco last season claiming a 4-0 away win and 3-1 home victory. Paris Saint-Germain should once again pick up a victory against Monaco with over 2.5 goals scored.

Monaco’s board may rethink their appointment of Moreno after Sunday’s fixture. Although both teams should score, expect Paris Saint-Germain to win easily.
