Real Madrid seek win to keep pace in La Liga title race
2975

Real Madrid are winless in their last three La Liga matches. Those three consecutive draws have seen the capital club fall behind Barcelona in the race for the La Liga title.

Zinedine Zidane’s team is two points back of Barcelona heading into round 19. A draw or loss would most likely see Real Madrid struggle to win the Spanish title as long as Barcelona continue to pick up points.

Getafe are sixth in the division and just nine points off of Barcelona. Although a title fight is highly unlikely, Getafe could finish in the Champions League places. The tiny Madrid-based club is just two points off of the top four.

The home side goes into the game unbeaten in five of their last six matches. They did lose 1-0 versus Villarreal prior to Christmas.

Real Madrid are unbeaten in their last 11 La Liga matches versus Getafe. The home side’s last win against Real Madrid came during the 2012-13 season when they won at home, 2-1.

Zinedine is facing an injury crisis which will affect Los Blancos for the entire second half of the season. Marco Asensio is ruled out through a knee injury that will keep him out for the remainder of the season.

James Rodriguez has been out of action since October with a knee injury and it was believed he would miss the rest of the season. He is now listed as possibly returning, although Real Madrid are desperate to sell him.

Eden Hazard will not play and is unlikely to be back this season due to a fractured ankle. Lucas Vazquez is a doubt due to a toe injury while Marcelo is likely to miss thanks to a calf problem. Captain Sergio Ramos is suspended for the fixture.

Real Madrid’s injury issues could cause major problems against Getafe. Although they still have far superior players, the defensive problems should see Real Madrid concede goals.

Six of the last 10 matches between Getafe and Real Madrid have ended with both teams scoring goals. Eight of those 10 fixtures saw over 2.5 goals tallied by Getafe and Real Madrid. Saturday’s match should see both sides find the back of the net along with over 2.5 goals tallied.

Zinedine’s team is struggling due to the mounting personnel problems, but should overcome Getafe once more. Los Blancos will push their record to 11 straight matches without defeat against their tiny neighbours from Madrid.
