As always, the race for promotion from the Championship to the Premier League looks to be a tight one. One team hoping to clinch a play-off spot is Cardiff City, who head to QPR on New Years Day.

The Welsh team are just outside the play-off positions in the second tier of English football. In fact, they are two points behind Sheffield Wednesday, who occupy the last play-off spot in the Championship.

Cardiff head into this encounter on the back of a four-game unbeaten run in the Championship. However, a 2-1 win last time out at Sheffield Wednesday ended a run of four league games without a victory, as three of their four recent unbeaten games have ended in draws.

Although the visitors recent league outings have not always produced a bagful of goals, both teams have scored in five of their last six Championship games.

Neil Harris’ team head to the English capital with a record of just two away wins in the Championship in their last 13 matches. Their recent away matches in the league have been high-scoring though, with over 2.5 goals scored in seven of their last nine games on their travels.

QPR are currently in the limbo of 15th place in the Championships. The Hoops are currently 11 points clear of the relegation zone and seven points off the play-off spots.

A poor recent run of results, consisting of one draw and three defeats in their last four Championship outings has not helped the home sides chances of moving up rather than going down.

Their recent displays have been dogged by poor defensive form, as Mark Warburton’s team has now conceded at least twice in three of their last four Championship matches.
