Swansea to see off Charlton at Liberty Stadium

Swansea City were held to a goal-less draw in Sunday afternoon’s clash with struggling Barnsley but they hold home advantage again at their Liberty Stadium where The Swans will be looking to bring the New Year in with all three points.

An improved run of form has seen Steve Cooper’s Swansea outfit suffer just 1 defeat out of their last 5 matches in the Championship and this has kept the Welsh club in touch with the play-off pack as the hosts sit in 9th place but just 1 point behind 6th placed Sheffield Wednesday.

Recent wins against Middlesbrough 3-1 at home and a valuable if uninspiring 1-0 win away from home at Luton Town has helped Swansea build some much-needed momentum and confidence and they’ll be confident they can grab the points against a downward spiralling Charlton Athletic outfit here.

Swansea are also unbeaten in their last 3 matches at their Liberty Stadium, drawing with Blackburn Rovers and Barnsley along with the aforementioned win against Middlesbrough.

Charlton Athletic’s promising mini-revival of 3 matches without defeat in the Championship came undone in Monday night’s 2-1 defeat away at fellow strugglers, Derby County, leaving Lee Bowyer’s side in 19th place on the Championship ladder.

The visitors were unable to back up from their 3-2 home win over Bristol City last time out at The Valley, and having failed to win any of their last 9 away matches in the second tier (losing 6 of these), The Addicks look to have their work cut out ahead of this difficult looking trip to Swansea on Tuesday night.

4 defeats from their last 5 matches on their travels have seen Charlton lose at Millwall, Luton Town, Middlesbrough and Derby County and the fact that out of these four aforementioned sides only Millwall occupy a position in the top half of the Championship, this doesn’t bode well for Charlton here.

Charlton have actually won just 2 of their 12 away matches to date in this season’s Championship campaign and they were both picked up earlier in the season back in August when Charlton had put together a 6-match unbeaten run to start the season.

Swansea City with home advantage should therefore get over the line here against a struggling Charlton side short on confidence and missing some key personnel such as striker, Macauley Bonne (8 goals).
