Brentford could nick the points at Bristol City
2330

Bristol City finally ended their dismal losing streak in the Championship when they grabbed all three points in a rousing 3-0 home win against hapless Luton Town at Ashton Gate, and The Robins will be hoping they can build on this momentum into the New Year when they play host to 4th placed Brentford.

An alarming sequence of four defeats on the trot for Lee Johnson’s men saw Bristol City slump to losses against Millwall, Blackburn Rovers, Sheffield Wednesday and Charlton Athletic, and this resulted in the west country outfit dropping out of the play-off pack.

The Robins now sit in 8th place but the much-needed win against Luton Town has moved the hosts to within striking distance of the play-off pack and just 1 point adrift of 6th placed Sheffield Wednesday.

Recent results at home though have been a mixed bag for Bristol City, but a return to goalscoring form for forwards Weimann (9 goals) and Diedhiou (6 goals) should ensure the hosts at least hit the back of the net here as 7 of their last 12 matches at home have seen 3 goals or more.

While Bristol City’s run of defeats were ending on Sunday afternoon, Brentford’s sequence of matches without defeat were coming to an end as The Bees were dealt a disappointing 1-0 loss away at London rivals, Millwall.

Brentford had previously put together a promising 4-match run without defeat in the Championship which included three wins with victories over Cardiff City, Fulham and Swansea City - all of which were registered on home turf at Griffin Park.

However, although Brentford have already eclipsed last season’s tally of 3 away wins throughout the whole of their last campaign already this season (with 5 away wins to date), recent results have taken a sharp dip in their past few outings.

Defeats at Blackburn Rovers, Sheffield Wednesday and aforementioned Millwall have dented Brentford’s away record and they’ve now lost the most away matches of all teams currently in the top six of the Championship.

This obviously doesn’t bode well for potential backers of Brentford for this upcoming clash against Bristol City, but they’re up against a City side who have only just returned to winning ways and confidence may still be fragile so the visitors could nick a win here.
