On Sunday afternoon, Fulham will look to get their challenge for a Championship play-off spot back on track as the Cottagers host Stoke at Craven Cottage.
The home side is currently fifth-place in the table but have a number of teams breathing down the back of their necks for the play-off spots.
The Cottagers may have believed that automatic promotion was possible this season. However, a poor recent run of form has seen Scott Parker’s team slip nine points behind the automatic promotion spots in the second tier.
A 3-3 boxing day draw with Luton Town means that the team from the English capital have won just once in their last five league outings in the Championship. However, they can at least feel positive that they have now picked up four points from a possible six in their last two games.
Parker’s team have an inconsistent recent home record in the Championship. However, a record of three wins from their last four home league games is not awful, especially as the Cottagers have scored at least twice in the three victories.
Serbian striker Aleksandar Mitrovic has been a major attacking threat in the second tier this season, having scored 18 times in his 23 league appearances for Fulham.
Stoke are enduring a nightmare campaign, as the Potters are only outside the Championship drop zone by virtue of superior goal difference to 22nd place Luton Town.
The appointment of Northern Irish boss Michael O’Neill has yet to yield any major results. However, the visitors did at least record a boxing day 3-2 win over Sheffield Wednesday, which they will hope will lead to an improvement in fortunes this season. With just two wins in their last seven league games, they certainly need a vast improvement to avoid the Championship’s relegation zone.
Unfortunately for the visitors, Forebet predicts that the home side will record a victory in a high-scoring encounter.
