Can Liverpool extend their PL lead versus Leicester City?
7256

Newly-crowned FIFA Club World Cup champions and Premier League leaders Liverpool head to Leicester City in a match that will see the division’s top two teams clash.

Liverpool are 10 points ahead of Leicester City in the Premier League title race. If the Foxes are unable to win versus the Reds, then their title hopes will surely be over.

Brendan Rodgers’ Leicester City have dropped points in their last two fixtures. Leicester City drew 1-1 versus Norwich City at the King Power Stadium before losing 3-1 to Manchester City at the Etihad Stadium at the weekend.

Leicester City are in poor form as a 2-2 draw with Everton in the Carabao Cup was sandwiched between those two results. The cup match saw Leicester City concede two second-half goals and lose a two-goal lead.

Injuries are grabbing the headlines as Liverpool go to the King Power Stadium. Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain is the latest player Jurgen Klopp will be without for the foreseeable future. The in-form midfielder turned his ankle versus Flamengo in the Club World Cup Final.

Oxlade-Chamberlain was later seen on crutches at the trophy ceremony. He will miss the fixture but Georginio Wijnaldum should be back from his own thigh issue.

Still, Klopp will be without centre-backs Joel Matip and Dejan Lovren. The manager played Joe Gomez and Virgil van Dijk against Flamengo on Saturday. It was Gomez’s best performance of the season. The duo will hope to continue their good form together.

Rodgers has just one new injury and that is to midfielder Harvey Barnes. Other than the injury to Barnes, Rodgers has a full squad to choose from.

Liverpool defeated Leicester City at Anfield in October 2-1. The Reds won with a second-half stoppage-time penalty from James Milner. Despite needing a late penalty, Liverpool dominated the fixture and deserved the win.

Leicester City have not defeated a top four team this season. They have lost to Liverpool and Manchester City, while drawing with Chelsea. They have also failed to defeat Wolverhampton Wanderers and Manchester United.

Rodgers’ team will have pressure on their shoulders and with Liverpool playing great football, should lose at home.

Liverpool goalkeeper Alisson Becker is in his best form of the season. His injury issues are now behind him. Alisson has kept three clean sheets in his last four matches. The goalkeeper should keep another clean sheet as Liverpool put goals past Leicester City.

Thursday’s game should be close with the Reds winning to nil and under 2.5 goals scored.
