Millwall look to extend unbeaten run against struggling Barnsley
2245

Millwall registered back-to-back wins in the Championship when they recorded a 1-0 win away from home at Derby County last Saturday which followed an impressive 2-1 win on the road at Bristol City, so The Lions will be in confident mood ahead of this upcoming clash with basement dwellers, Barnsley, at The Den.

Saturday’s hosts are now unbeaten in their last 7 matches overall in  the Championship and currently enjoying a new lease of life under new manager, Gary Rowett, as his side have also picked up earlier wins against Charlton Athletic and Swansea City during this solid sequence of results.

Millwall have now climbed up into the top half of the second tier as well as the hosts occupy 11th place on the Championship ladder, and having suffered just 1 defeat at home throughout this season to date, The Lions look a tough proposition at The Den.

The hosts boast a 6-match unbeaten sequence on home turf under Rowett which also includes an earlier 2-1 victory over high-flying Leeds United, so they shouldn’t be under-estimated here.

Onto Barnsley, and The Tykes once agin find themselves in familiar territory down at the bottom of the Championship and dealing with disappointment after making such a promising start to their return to the Championship.

It seems light years ago that the South Yorkshire outfit inflicted a 1-0 home win over Fulham at Oakwell in the opening fixture of the Championship season, but a subsequent miserable stretch of 17 matches without a win in the second tier has done the damage.

Despite recent home wins against Hull City 3-1 and QPR 5-3, The Tykes still remain bottom of the Championship and 4 points adrift of Luton Town and the safety of 21st place on the league ladder.

To make matters worse, Barnsley are still without an away win this season and make their way down to the nation’s capital on the back of 4 straight defeats on the trot, losing at Huddersfield Town, Blackburn Rovers, Middlesbrough and Cardiff City.

Gerhard Struber’s side therefore look to have their work cut out ahead of this trip to face an in-form Millwall outfit, and along with the third worst goalscoring record away from home in the division, Barnsley have also kept just 1 clean sheet on the road to date.
