Napoli to overcome Genk and qualify from Group E
SSC Napoli vs Racing Genk - 10/12/2019
3990
Napoli welcome Genk on Matchday 6 of the 2019/20 Champions League. A win would guarantee the Italian side a place in the next round, but Carlo Ancelotti’s side could still progress even with defeat if results elsewhere go in their favour.
The Naples outfit are second in Group E – one point behind leaders Liverpool and two points clear of third-place Red Bull Salzburg. The Italians are yet to lose in Europe this season, but three draws have seen them fail to gather momentum.
Ancelotti’s men kicked off their campaign with an impressive 2-0 victory over Liverpool. A disappointing goalless draw with Genk followed, before Napoli edged Salzburg 3-2 on Matchday 3. However, back-to-back 1-1 draws have left the Italian side with work to do on Tuesday.
Napoli are without a win in their last seven league games – a run which has seen them slip to seventh in the Serie A standings. They come into this game on the back of a poor draw with Udinese.
Genk are also struggling domestically. The Belgian side have a record of W7/D4/L7 in the Belgian Pro League and they already find themselves 17 points behind league-leaders Club Brugge.
Things haven’t gone well for Genk in Europe either. They are rock bottom of Group E after picking up just one points from five Champions League games.
Genk’s sole point came from a draw with Matchday 6 opponents Napoli, but the Belgians have lost every other game in Group E. They have conceded 16 goals (at an average of just over three goals per game) and have only managed to scored five in reply.
On the other hand, Napoli have only scored seven. However, their defence has been very solid – conceding just four goals in the Champions League this season.
Despite Napoli’s domestic troubles, the Italian side have enjoyed a good European campaign so far. Napoli have used the Champions League as a welcome break from their Serie A woes, and they are expected to get the better of Genk on Tuesday.
The Belgian club are in a bad place right now, and have arguably been one of the worst teams in the tournament this term. With a third-place finish out of reach, Genk have nothing to play for.
Forebet predicts that Napoli will beat Genk while keeping a clean sheet. The Italians will progress into the next round, but Genk must settle for another early exit.
