Luton and Charlton to both score in London clash

Luton Town were condemned to a fifth defeat on the trot on the weekend when they were handed a 2-1 defeat at home to high-flying Leeds United, but at least Graeme Jones’s side have an immediate opportunity to redeem themselves on Tuesday night when they entertain Charlton Athletic at Kenilworth Road.

Earlier defeats to Fulham, Birmingham City, Nottingham Forest and Reading, along with Saturday’s loss to Leeds United have placed Luton Town in a precarious position just above the relegation zone with The Hatters just 1 point above third from bottom club, Middlesbrough.

Luton’s results at home have been sporadic so far this season as they’ve collected just 2 wins out of their first 7 home matches of this new Championship campaign, while the hosts head into Tuesday night’s clash with Charlton having won just 1 of their last 5 matches at Kenilworth Road.

The win markets should therefore be avoided but the goals markets look promising as 6 of Luton Town’s 8 home matches to date have resulted with both teams scoring.

Onto Charlton Athletic, and Lee Bowyer’s side were held to a 2-2 draw at home by Cardiff City at The Valley, but having made a solid and impressive start to the new Championship season, The Addicks have now gone 5 matches without a win in the Championship.

Charlton started the campaign on fire as the south-east London outfit put together a 6-match unbeaten run in their return to the Championship, but perhaps the rigours of second tier football are now just starting to take their toll as The Addicks have won just 2 of their subsequent 11 matches.

These wins were registered against one of Bowyer’s old clubs, Leeds United in a 1-0 victory along with a 3-0 win against Derby County but both of these successes were recorded at The Valley, while results away from home have certainly nose-dived in recent times.

After being unbeaten in their first 3 away matches, Charlton have since slumped to 5 matches without a win on their travels which includes defeats at Wigan Athletic, Bristol City and Millwall.

However, the silver lining is that 6 of Charlton’s 9 away matches to date have seen both teams hit the back of the net and this trend looks set to continue in this all-London affair on Tuesday night.
