Norway’s hopes of qualifying for Euro 2020 are looking very slim heading into the final two games in Group F. However, the Scandinavians do still have a chance of qualifying, as they host group whipping boys the Faroes Islands on Friday.
Lars Lagerback’s team are currently fourth in the group table, four points behind neighbours Sweden, who occupy the second qualification spot, with Sweden and third-place Romania facing off elsewhere. If Sweden wins the clash, then Norway’s hopes of qualification are over.
The home sides qualification hopes have been hampered by three straight draws in the group. They are in fact, seven games unbeaten in Group F, but have drawn five of those seven undefeated matches. Last time out, the Scandinavians drew 1-1 with Romania.
Norway are unbeaten in four games on home soil in qualifying for the European Championships. However, they have drawn three of their last four qualifiers at home.
Norway have been hard to beat on home soil in qualifying, as they have lost just once in nine home qualifiers. The home side has scored at least two goals in three of their last four qualifiers on their own patch.
Faroes Islands have lost seven of their last eight qualifiers for the European Championships. However, they ended a run of 11 straight defeats in qualifiers by recording a 1-0 win over Malta in their last outing.
The visitors had conceded at least two goals in their previous nine European Championship qualifiers. The Faroe Islands had also failed to score in their four previous qualifiers.
Unsurprisingly considering their recent poor record in qualifying, Faroe Islands have been poor on their travels, losing 24 of their last 25 away games in qualifying for the European Championships.
