Can Everton move clear of bottom-three with win over Southampton?

Southampton and Everton face each other in a vital clash at the bottom of the Premier League table on Saturday.

The Saints find themselves in the relegation zone, while Everton are sitting just one place above them in 17th.

The hosts have failed to win any of their last six league matches. Defeats to Manchester City, Leicester, Chelsea, Tottenham and Bournemouth in that time have left Southampton in real trouble.

However, after suffering a humiliating 9-0 defeat to the Foxes, Ralph Hasenhuttl will be happy with how his team responded last time out. Southampton were leading Man City for the majority of the game, only for the reigning champions to snatch all three points at the death.

Ultimately, the Saints came away with nothing from their trip to the Etihad. However, it was a vast improvement on their previous league game, and this will give the players a boost heading into the match with Everton.

Prior to the start of the season, the Toffees were being touted as potential candidates to break into the top-six. So, with 11 games already gone, Marco Silva will be bitterly disappointed that his side find themselves in such a poor position.

One win in seven league matches has seen Everton continue to slide down the table, while the team looks disjointed and bereft of ideas. A 2-0 win at fellow-strugglers West Ham is their only league victory since the beginning of September.

The Toffees managed to scrape a 1-1 draw against Tottenham in their previous game, but their ability to pick up a point was overshadowed by a horrific injury to Andre Gomes. The Portuguese midfielder suffered a fracture dislocation to his ankle.

Everton will also be without Fabian Delph and Bernard for the trip to St. Mary’s on Saturday.

As for Southampton, they will be hoping that right-back Cedric Soares will be ready for a return to the team. However, Ryan Bertrand is still suspended following his red card against Leicester City.

The recent head-to-head record between Southampton and Everton is evenly-matched. In the last ten meetings between the two teams, both sides have claimed four wins each, while the other two games have ended level.

With that being said, Everton look set to heap more misery on Southampton this weekend as the Toffees aim to move clear of the bottom-three.

Forebet predicts a high-scoring victory for Everton. Both teams to score also looks likely.
