Man City set to cruise past Aston Villa

Manchester City host Aston Villa in the Premier League’s early kick-off on Saturday.

Pep Guardiola’s side sit six points behind league leaders Liverpool, while back-to-back wins for Villa have seen them move up to 12th.

Aston Villa thrashed Norwich 5-1 before the international break before eventually overcoming Brighton last weekend.

A first-half goal from Jack Grealish and a Matt Targett strike deep into added time saw Villa come from behind to secure consecutive league victories.

Dean Smith’s team now have a record of W3/D2/L4 in the Premier League. They have scored more goals (15) than five teams above them in the table, but have conceded 13 goals in the process.

On the other hand, Manchester City are the division’s top scorers with 29 goals from their nine games. They are averaging over 3 goals per game in the league so far this season.

City come into this match having thrashed Atalanta 5-1 in the Champions League on Tuesday, so Villa must be at their absolute best if they are to get anything from this game.

Raheem Sterling scored a hat-trick in mid-week, while Sergio Aguero bagged two. The two forwards have been in red-hot form this term.

Sterling has scored 13 goals in 14 appearances in all competitions this season and has also registered four assists. Aguero has ten goals in ten appearances in 2019/20.

However, City do have problems at the back. Rodri went off injured with a hamstring injury against Atalanta. The Spaniard has been filling in at centre-back alongside Fernandinho.

First choice centre-backs Nicolas Otamendi and John Stones are struggling for fitness, while Aymeric Laporte is sidelined until next year.

Still, Manchester City are the firm favourites heading into this match given the strength of their squad.

As for Villa, Jonathan Kodjia is pushing for a comeback following a spell out due to injury.

Aston Villa have not beaten Man City since 2013. City have claimed five wins and a draw since then.

The last match between the two teams ended 4-0 in favour of City, and the Manchester club have kept a clean sheet in five of their last six meetings with Villa.

Manchester City are expected to win again this time around, but their defensive problems mean Villa could get on the scoresheet.

Forebet predicts that Man City will claim the victory, with both teams likely to score.
