Poland to strengthen position at the top of Group G in Latvia
Latvia vs Poland - 10/10/2019
2014
Group G of qualifying for the European Championships is one of the most intriguing. With no European superpower in the group, it was always going to be interesting to see who qualify for next years tournament.
The team that is currently leading the group is Poland, who on Thursday night visit the groups whipping boy Latvia.
Despite Poland leading the way in the group, they are by no means certain of a place in Euro 2020. In fact, there are still five teams in with a chance of finishing in those two crucial qualification spots.
The visitor's form has stalled of late in the group, as Jerzy Brzeczek’s side have picked up just a point from their last two matches against Slovenia and last time out Austria. They are now just two points clear of second-place Slovenia and three points ahead of Austria in third place.
The visitors have an inconsistent away record in qualifying for the European Championships of late, winning just two of their last five matches on their travels in qualifying. However, a trip to struggling Latvia should improve that record.
Latvia have endured a nightmare campaign so far in Group G, losing all six of their matches and conceding goals galore in the process. In fact, the home side has conceded at least two goals in all six of their qualifiers. To make matters even worse, they have scored just once in Group G.
However, Latvia have not just had problems winning in qualifying for Euro 2020, they have now failed to win in 14 games in all competitions. Home has offered little comfort either, as they have suffered four straight home defeats without scoring.
It would be a massive surprise if Poland did not record a win in this clash. Forebet predicts a high-scoring away victory.
