Tottenham Hotspur to rebound from recent poor form
2970

Tottenham Hotspur have had an atrocious week and a half. After 2-2 draw in the Champions League to Olympiacos, Spurs lost 2-1 to Leicester City. To make matters worse, Tottenham Hotspur lost on penalties to Colchester in the Carabao Cup in midweek.

Mauricio Pochettino’s team is out of form and struggling. The Spurs’ attack was held scoreless against Colchester despite the manager playing a strong team that included Dele Alli and Lucas Moura.

Tottenham Hotspur will welcome Southampton to north London on Saturday. Saints are also coming off of a Premier League loss from a week ago. Ralph Hassenhuttl’s team fell 3-1 to Bournemouth.

Southampton did rebound in midweek with a 4-0 Carabao Cup victory over Portsmouth. Striker Danny Ings scored twice for Southampton to bring his total to three goals for the season.

Hassenhuttl needs his Saints’ attack to step up against Tottenham Hotspur. Southampton average just 1.0 goals per match. Just one time this season have Southampton been held scoreless in the league.

Tottenham Hotspur are undefeated in eight of their last 10 matches against Southampton in the Premier League. The Saints did win at home against Tottenham Hotspur last season, it was their first win against Spurs since 2016.

Pochettino’s team defeated Southampton at home last season 3-1 thanks to goals from Harry Kane, Moura, and Heung-Min Son. Kane has scored four goals in the league which has accounted for 33% of Spurs’ scoring.

Hassenhuttl received an injury boost in midweek with the return of Nathan Redmond. The midfielder is an integral part of Southampton’s attack and was greatly missed when out injured.

Southampton could be without Alex McCarthy. He is set to undergo a late fitness test prior to the fixture. Meanwhile, Moussa Djenepo is set to miss the match due to a thigh injury. Dejenepo may not return until after the October international break.

Tottenham Hotspur have got several players back from injuries in recent weeks. However, Giovani Lo Celso is still out and won’t be back until November. Summer signing Ryan Sessegnon is still unlikely to play. He re-aggregated a thigh injury and is still recovering.

Spurs have a bright recent record against Southampton. They have not lost in their last eight Premier League games against the Saints.

Tottenham Hotspur will pick up another home win against their south coast rivals with Southampton struggling to score once more. Expect a win to nil for Tottenham Hotspur and under 2.5 goals scored.
