The departure of former manager, Steve Bruce, to Newcastle United during the summer was expected to have a detrimental effect on Sheffield Wednesday but The Owls have made a solid start to this new campaign under caretaker-manager, Lee Bullen.
Sheffield Wednesday have won 3 of their first 5 matches of this new Championship season as they’ve collected wins away at Reading on the opening day of the season at the Madejski Stadium, along with back-to-back home wins at Hillsborough against Barnsley 2-0 and Luton Town 1-0.
Despite losing their last two away matches on the trot at Millwall and Preston North End, Sheffield Wednesday will nevertheless be in confident mood when they return to Hillsborough for this upcoming clash against QPR.
This may seem strange as The Owls lost 2-1 at home to QPR towards the end of last season’s Championship campaign, but Wednesday have suffered just 2 defeats out of their last 16 matches on home turf in the second tier and will therefore fancy their chances of gaining revenge in this Saturday’s encounter.
Onto QPR then, and after a promising start to this new Championship season which saw the London club gain an opening day 2-1 win away at a beleaguered Stoke City outfit, followed by a 1-1 draw at home with Huddersfield Town, The R’s seem to have drifted back to their old ways.
A win over League One outfit, Bristol Rovers, on penalties in the League Cup and a 3-1 victory over Wigan Athletic in the Championship have been the only highlights since for QPR who have lost 3 of their last 4 matches in all competitions.
The recent wins over Bristol Rovers and Wigan Athletic were both registered at Loftus Road, but defeats in the Championship to Bristol City and Swansea City along with a 2nd round exit in the League Cup to Portsmouth in midweek perhaps shows that a revival for QPR may be a while in coming to fruition.
In addition, the visitor’s results away from home indicate there’s still plenty of work ahead for manager, Mark Warburton, and his QPR outfit as they’ve collected just 2 away wins out of their last 13 matches on their travels.
Sheffield Wednesday have lost just 1 of their last 7 matches at Hillsborough in all competitions and look the better equipped to take the points in this clash.
