Manchester United will be looking to return to winning ways as they travel to St. Mary’s in the early kick-off on Saturday.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s men were beaten by Crystal Palace in dramatic fashion last time out, which leaves the team’s record at W1, D1, L1 so far this season.

United began the campaign with a 4-0 thrashing of Chelsea but could only manage a 1-1 draw with Wolves in Round 2.

They went behind after half an hour against Palace before Marcus Rashford missed the team’s second penalty in as many matches.

Daniel James thought he had rescued a point for his side on 89 minutes but Patrick van Aanholt scored in injury time to condemn Man Utd to their first loss of the season.

Southampton lost their first two matches to Burnley and Liverpool but picked up a hard-fought victory away at Brighton in the previous round.

Moussa Djenepo and Nathan Redmond both scored to give the Saints their first three points of the campaign.

That was Southampton’s first league win in eight attempts after failing to win any of their last five matches at the end of last season.

Similarly, Manchester United also failed to win in their final five matches of the previous campaign and Solskjaer will be desperate for a win on Saturday in an attempt to kick-start a run positive of results.

Despite his team’s poor form, Saints’ boss Ralph Hasenhuttl will be satisfied with his players following an impressive display against Liverpool and their win against Brighton last time out.

Southampton have no fresh injury worries head of the clash with United however the Red Devils have a number of injury concerns.

Left-back Luke Shaw is set to be out for a month with a hamstring problem while Anthony Martial is also a doubt with a thigh issue. Eric Bailey is a long-term absentee.

Southampton last beat Manchester United in 2016 but have enjoyed very little success in this fixture since then.

United are unbeaten in the last seven meetings between the two teams and have scored two or more goals on four occasions in that time.

Southampton will put up a fight on Saturday however United are likely to come away with the victory.

Forebet predicts a narrow Manchester United win, with both teams finding the back of the net.
