European Hangover for Wolves?

European Hangover for Wolves?
2539

The final round of Premier League matches this week takes place on Sunday afternoon. One of which is at Molineux as Wolverhampton Wanderers take on Burnley.

It will be interesting to see how Wolves react to their trip to Torino on Thursday night and Burnley know all about how an early Europa League campaign can impact a season.

Wolves come into this match with 2 points to their name from two games played and that leaves them in 13th place in the Premier League table. Burnley have 3 points from their two games and at the time of writing they find themselves in 10th place.

The hosts have been busy this season having entered the Europa League at the qualifying stage. In some respects that can mean they are at peak match fitness but it can also lead to tired legs. Wolves have played seven competitive games this season and remain undefeated. They have won five matches in the Europa League qualifying rounds but have yet to win a game in the Premier League.

Wolves picked up a point on the opening weekend of the season as they held Leicester City to a 0-0 draw at the King Power Stadium. They then met Manchester United at home and were held to another draw, this time 1-1 as they scored their first goal of the season.

Trends show Wolves are tough to beat at home and they are undefeated in their last fourteen games in all competitions. They have won eleven of those fourteen matches and have kept a clean sheet in four of their last six.

Burnley started the season with an excellent 3-0 home win over Southampton. It was the perfect way to begin the new campaign but that win was followed by a trip to play Arsenal away. This was always going to be a difficult assignment but despite losing the match 2-1, no one could have grumbled if Burnley had taken a point from the game.

However, Burnley have now won just one of their last six Premier League games and lost four of their last five. Away from home in the league, Burnley have won one of their last six and conceded 2 or more goals in five of those matches.

Team news and it will be interesting to see what changes Wolves make following their game on Thursday night. Matt Doherty is the only player who could be missing due to illness.  Italian striker Patrick Cutrone will be hoping to start having been on the bench on Thursday.

Burnley are still without Robert Brady who has a hip injury and they have doubts over the fitness of Steven Defour. Sean Dyche is expected to keep the same starting XI from the previous game at Arsenal.

Wolves have yet to win a match in the Premier League this season but that could be about to change. They have a strong home record and if they freshen things up a little from Thursday night, could come away with a win and clean sheet.
