Manchester City Meet Spurs in Big Game of the Weekend

Manchester City Meet Spurs in Big Game of the Weekend
2954

Last weekend we saw Manchester United and Chelsea meet at Old Trafford in what was a huge game and we have another one this weekend. The late kick-off on Saturday sees Manchester City welcome Tottenham Hotspur to the Etihad Stadium.

This is a meeting between the defending Premier League champions and a team who are hopeful of taking their title away from them this season. We should be in a for a fantastic match.

Manchester City started the defence of their title last weekend in what could have been a tricky game at West Ham United. It was a close encounter in the first 20 minutes but once Gabriel Jesus made the breakthrough, the floodgates opened. Manchester City went on to dominate the match and came away with a convincing 5-0 victory.

Trends show Manchester City have won each of their last fifteen Premier League games. You must go back to the match at Newcastle United on the 29th January to find the last time they lost in the domestic league.

At home, Manchester City have won each of their last sixteen games in all competitions and lost just one of the last twenty-five. They have kept five clean sheets in their last six home Premier League matches and will be aiming to extend that run by shutting out Tottenham Hotspur in this game, as they did last season.

Spurs started the season with a home match against newly promoted Aston Villa. They will be glad to play all their home matches at their own stadium this season and despite falling behind to an early goal, two late goals from Harry Kane was enough to see Spurs take maximum points.

It was an important win for Spurs who failed to win any of their final three Premier League games last season. Away form was very poor at the end of the 2018/19 Premier League campaign and Spurs have lost each of their last six away league matches. The defeats came at Burnley, Chelsea, Southampton, Liverpool, Manchester City and Bournemouth.

Trends show Spurs have failed to score in three of their last five away Premier League games and have conceded in each of the last seven on the road.

Team news and Manchester City will be without long term absentee Leroy Sane but Benjamin Mendy has returned to training. Bernardo Silva will be hoping to feature having been an unused substitute in the win at West Ham last weekend.

Tottenham Hotspur cannot count on the services of Juan Foyth and Heung-Min Son who are both suspended. Foyth also has an injury and is joined by Dele Alli on the treatment table.

Spurs know they can lay down a big marker if they can take maximum points from this game but it is going to be extremely tough. Manchester City are on a great run in the Premier League and even if Spurs manage to score a couple of goals, the hosts have what it takes to score more. A home win and both teams to score is a probable outcome.
