Shanghai SIPG to continue title challenge against Tianjin Quanjian

Shanghai SIPG to continue title challenge against Tianjin Quanjian
2371

On Saturday afternoon, Shanghai SIPG will look to maintain their title challenge in the Chinese Super League, as they host Tianjin Quanjian at the Shanghai Stadium.

The two teams are in very different predicaments heading into this clash, as Shanghai are looking to challenge for the league title, while the visitors are just looking to stay in the league.

Shanghai are currently second in the Chinese Super League, four points behind league leaders Guangzhou Evergrande. With ten league games remaining, winning the title is still a realistic possibility for Vitor Pereira’s team.

The home side heads into this game on the back of a seven-game unbeaten run in the Chinese top-flight. However, recent draws against Chongqing Dangdai Lifan and last time out Wuhan Zall have hampered their title challenge slightly.

It is important to note that those consecutive draws were away from the Chinese capital. At home, Shanghai SIPG have won seven of their last eight home games in the Chinese Super League. The only exception in that good home run was a defeat against leaders Guangzhou Evergrande, which could prove costly in the title race.

These wins have been achieved mainly through good attacking displays, as Pereira’s side has scored at least twice in all seven of those aforementioned victories.

Tianjin heads into this clash just a point outside of the relegation zone after a poor campaign so far. Their recent form has not been great, but a 1-0 win over Tianjin Teda last time out will lift spirits.

The victory also brought a much-needed improved defensive display, as the visitors had previously conceded at least two goals in their previous six league games.

Park Choong-Kyun’s team have also failed to win in six away matches in the Chinese Super League, having conceded at least twice in the last six games on their travels.

Forebet predicts that Shanghai will continue their title challenge and increase the visitor’s relegation worries by recording a victory in a high-scoring encounter.
