Trying to bounce back to the Premier League following relegation is not an easy task, as many clubs have found out.  That’s the task Swansea City and Hull City have found impossible following their drop from the top-flight over recent years and the teams meet on the first weekend of the 2019/20 Championship season.

The match will be played on Saturday 3rd August at the Liberty Stadium and both teams will be hoping to get off to a good start.

Swansea City have lost their manager, Graham Potter and he has been replaced by Steve Cooper this season. The Swans have enjoyed an encouraging preseason which has seen them win all six of their friendly games.  They have defeated Mansfield Town, Crawley Town, Yeovil Town, Exeter City, Bristol Rovers and Atalanta.

Some of those teams may not be as strong as the clubs in the Championship but the wins over Bristol Rovers and Atalanta were decent.

Home form in the Championship was very good last season following the turn of the year.  From Boxing Day onwards, Swansea City did not lose a Championship match at home, winning seven and drawing four of their last eleven home games.

Swansea City were very exciting to watch and both teams have scored in each of their last five home Championship matches.  They have also seen over 2.5 goals in five of their last six league games on home soil.

Hull City also have a new man in charge of the team this season following the departure of Nigel Adkins. Northern Irishman, Grant McCann has come into the club from Doncaster Rovers and will be keen to make an immediate impact.

The Tigers have had a mixed bag of results in preseason, winning only one of their five friendly matches.  The win came over Lincoln Red Imps of Gibraltar and they have been held to draws by Leyton Orient, Mansfield Town and Doncaster Rovers.  The only defeat came at home against Amiens FC.

Hull City’s away record in the Championship was poor towards the end of last season.  Trends show the won only one of their last ten away Championship matches, losing seven and drawing two.  Their final away game of last season was at Swansea City and that ended in a 2-2 draw.

Looking ahead to the team news and Swansea City could be without leading striker Oliver McBurnie, who is on the brink of a move to Sheffield United.  If he does make the move, Swansea City could be light in attack.

Hull City will be hoping Jackson Irvine can continue his fine form from preseason and be a genuine goal threat from midfield in this game.  Young striker Keane Lewis-Potter could be given a chance but is more likely to be on the bench.

This is a game which should see goals but Swansea City have the advantage of playing home.  They were very strong at home in the second half of last season and Swansea City could get the win, with both teams scoring.
