Two of Top Six Meet in Brazil
2291

There are four games in the Brazilian Serie A to enjoy on Sunday 21st July and arguably the best of those games sees Santos travel to the Estádio Nilton Santos to take on Botafogo.

The hosts begin this round of fixtures in 6th place in the table, with 16 points from ten games played.  A win could see them move up to 4th place but it would need to be convincing.  Santos are currently in 2nd place and although a win is unlikely to be good enough to see them move top, they could move level on points with the leaders.

Botafogo come into this match having picked up a point in a 0-0 draw at Cruzeiro last weekend. That result means they have failed to win their last two league games following a 1-0 loss at home to Gremio on the Wednesday before.

However, trends show that is the only defeat Botafogo have suffered in their last five and matches and they have won three of them.  The wins have come against Vasco da Gama at home and CSA away in Serie A plus Sol de America in the Copa Sudamerica.

Botafogo have a good home record and they have won seven of their last nine Serie A matches at the Estádio Nilton Santos.  Despite that statistic, they have lost two of their last three and this is set to be another tough test in-front of their own fans.

Santos make the trip to Rio de Janeiro on the back of a 1-0 win at Bahia last weekend. That result means they are undefeated in their last five Serie A games.  In fact, trends show they have lost only one of their last ten league matches, which is a good record.

Of their last five league games, Santos have won each of the last four.  There have been wins at home against Atletico Mineiro and Corinthians plus Ceara and Bahia away.

Santos are undefeated in four of their last five away Serie A matches.  There have been wins at Gremio, Ceara and Bahia plus a 0-0 draw at CSA.  Santos have kept three clean sheets in their last four away league games but have only managed to score 2 goals themselves, which is something they need to improve.

Team news and Botafogo could be without Cicero who has been struggling with a thigh injury.  Every other player should be available.

Santos travel with doubts over the fitness of Leandro Donizete and Anderson Santos but top scorer Eduardo Sasha is expected to be fit.

This has the makings of being a very tight game, with few goals being scored.  Santos have been very good defensively, especially away from home and could come away with a narrow 1-0 victory.
