In the second AFCON 2019 semi-final on Sunday, Algeria face Nigeria at the Cairo International Stadium.

With the score level at 1-1 after extra-time, Algeria overcame Ivory Coast on penalties to reach the last four.

Sofiane Feghouli gave The Desert Foxes the lead in the 20th minute however Jonathan Kodjia leveled for Ivory Coast in the second half.

Algeria converted their first four penalties and Serey Die missed for Ivory Coast, sending Algeria into their first AFCON semi-final since 2010.

Nigeria defeated South Africa 2-1 to claim their place in the last four in what was a tense quarter-final tie.

Villarreal winger Samuel Chukwueze gave The Super Eagles the lead in the first half before South Africa drew level with 20 minutes left to play.

Nigeria’s winner came from an unlikely source. Center-back William Troost-Ekong guided home Moses Simon’s 89th minute corner to claim the victory in dramatic style.

Having failed to qualify for the previous two AFCON tournaments, the 2013 winners are now just two wins away from claiming African football’s top prize.

On the other hand, Algeria’s last triumph came all the way back 1990. They will be confident of ending their drought this year after an impressive run to the semi-finals.

The Desert Foxes blitzed through the group stage; winning all of their matches without conceding a single goal.

They followed up their impressive start to the competition with a dominant 3-0 victory over Guinea in the round of sixteen.

The only goal that they have conceded so far came in their quarter-final clash with Ivory Coast and head coach Djamel Belmadi will be confident of his side’s chances against Nigeria.

The two teams last faced each other in this tournament back in 2010. Nigeria claimed a 1-0 victory in the third-place play-off thanks to a goal from Victor Obinna.

Nigeria also have the better of the head to head record between the two sides, with nine wins to Algeria’s seven.

Algeria begin as slight favorites this time around. They have been far more convincing than Nigeria so far and possess some of the continent’s top players.

Manchester City’s Riyad Mahrez, FC Porto’s Yacine Brahimi and Napoli’s Adam Ounas are just a few of the players ready to guide Algeria to their first title in nearly 30 years.

Forebet predicts that Algeria will claim a comfortable victory whist keeping a clean sheet in the process.
