Chicago Fire to be put out by Atlanta
2028
The SeatGeek Stadium is the venue of the next MLS preview as Chicago Fire take on Atlanta United in Wednesday night’s all-Eastern Conference clash with a valuable three points at stake for both teams.
Chicago Fire sit third from bottom in the Eastern Conference and although they’ve suffered just 1 defeat out of their 9 matches played on home turf at their SeatGeek Stadium, they still find themselves 4 points adrift of the play-off pack.
A poor record away from home has been the main reason for their lowly league position as Chicago have still yet to register an away win, but results overall in recent times have begun to suffer too.
Chicago Fire have now gone 6 matches without a win in the MLS, a sequence which has seen the hosts draw 3 and lose 3 in recent weeks.
Points earned in draws with New York City, DC United and Real Salt Lake have been outweighed by defeats to San Jose Earthquakes, Atlanta United (away) and New York Red Bulls.
Chicago Fire have also lost 4 of their last 6 meetings against Atlanta United too as recent history also appears to be against them here.
Onto Atlanta United, and the visitors occupy 4th place on the Eastern Conference ladder and are just 3 points adrift of league leaders, Philadelphia Union, ahead of this Wednesday night clash in Illinois.
Although Atlanta have suffered setbacks against New York Red Bulls, Real Salt Lake and Toronto, they’ve also picked up 3 wins out of their last 4 matches.
Wins over Minnesota United, Chicago Fire (at home) and Montreal Impact have helped maintain Atlanta United’s challenge for a top seven finish and a place in the finals play-offs.
However, Atlanta have also suffered 3 defeats on the trot away from home which include losses at the aforementioned Red Bulls, Real Salt Lake and Toronto games, but they appear to have the upper hand over Chicago Fire when the two teams face off.
Midfielder Barco (4 goals) and forward Martinez (10 goals) look to be Atlanta’s main threats in front of goal, with the added incentive of knowing that all three points in Chicago on Wednesday night could not only see them draw level with Philadelphia Union, but even move them top of the Conference if other results go their way.
An away win for Atlanta here doesn’t look out of the question here.
