Bohemians Closing in on Second Place

Bohemians Closing in on Second Place
2626

There is a quick turnaround of fixtures in the League of Ireland Premier Division this week.  Following the full range of matches on Friday night, the teams have two days off before playing their next game, which takes place on Monday.

The standout fixture on Monday is the game between Bohemians and Derry City at Dalymount Park, Dublin.  This is a match between the 3rd and 4th place teams in the division.  Bohemians find themselves in 3rd place on 40 points while Derry City are 4th on 34 point and have a game in hand, so there is all to play for in this fixture.

Bohemians come into this match having defeated Waterford 2-1 away from home on Friday night. Waterford are down at the wrong end of the table but they are clear of the relegation zone and it was a good win.

Trends show Bohemians have won each of their last three League of Ireland Premier Division matches.  In addition to the win at Waterford, they have won two home games.  Bohemians defeated Finn Harps 5-3 and enjoyed an excellent 2-1 win over 2nd place team Shamrock Rovers.

Bohemians have scored at least one goal in each of their last six Premier Division games but have been struggling to keep clean sheets.  They have allowed goals in each of their last eight Premier League matches and if they fail to break into the top two, they can point to their lack of clean sheets as the main issue.

Derry City travel to Dublin having enjoyed a fantastic 4-1 win at Cork City on Friday night. They raced into a 4-0 lead after 66 minutes and the result was never in doubt despite conceding a goal with a few minutes remaining.

That result means Derry City are undefeated in their last three League of Ireland Premier Division Games.  In addition to the win at Cork City, they have held Shamrock Rovers to a 2-2 draw away and beaten Finn Harps 4-0 at home.

Away form shows Derry City are tough to beat on the road and they have lost only one of their last eleven away league games.  There have been four wins and six draws during that run of eleven matches.  However, Derry City have won just one of their last six on the road.

Team news and Bohemians could be without Daniel Grant who has been suffering with a hamstring injury.  Robert Cornwall, Promise Omocher, Cristian Magerusan and Dinny Corcoran are rated as doubtful.

Derry City should be close to full strength but have doubts over three players with Patrick McClean, Darren Cole and Michael McCrudden all hoping to be fit.

This should be a close game and Derry City’s away form suggests they could pick up a point from this match.  Clean sheets for either team are unlikely so we could see a draw and both teams scoring.
