Ireland Premier Division league leaders Dundalk host Waterford on Monday night. Dundalk head into the weekend five points ahead of second-place Shamrock Rovers.

The Premier Division will have a quick turnaround this weekend as teams play on Friday night and again on Monday.

Dundalk have won six straight matches in the Ireland Premier League with five of those fixtures ending in wins to nil. The only match of their last six to finish with both teams scoring came against Bohemians in a 2-1 victory.

Waterford go into the weekend as the league’s eighth place team. Despite their lowly position, Waterford are still 13 points off of the relegation places.

The Blues finished the league season in fourth place last term. Their inconsistencies will most likely prevent an upper half of the table finish this time around.

Manager Alan Reynolds’ team is undefeated in four of their last six fixtures, however. Their last match saw them pick up a 1-0 win over ninth-place UCD.

Waterford’s issues have been in defence this season as they have allowed 26 goals in 18 matches. They concede 1.4 goals on average per game. The good news for Reynolds is Waterford have games in hand.

Watford have played the fewest number of games this season (18) and could pick up enough points to reach the top five by the term’s end. Although they have games in hand, they must win and pick up points. Something that has been difficult so far.

Vinny Perth’s Dundalk team have continued to flex their muscles in the Premier Division this season. The reigning league champions have been ruthless in front of goal scoring 40 times.

They have also been a tough nut to crack in defence. Just 11 goals have been conceded by Dundalk.

Lilywhites forward Pat Hoban has scored 11 goals this season while Michael Duffy has chipped in seven of his own. The duo has accounted for 43% of Dundalk’s scoring.

Dundalk have dominated their last six matches against Waterford. The Lilywhites have won five and drawn one game in six meetings with Waterford in the last two seasons. In four of those six matches Dundalk won to nil.

Perth’s Dundalk have defeated Waterford twice already this season by a combined 7-0 scoreline. Dundalk tallied over 2.5 goals in both matches while keeping two clean sheets.

Monday night’s fixture could be more of the same between Dundalk and Waterford at Oriel Park in Ireland Premier Division action.
