Must Win Game for Burundi and Guinea

Must Win Game for Burundi and Guinea
2215

The 2019 Africa Cup of Nations is approaching the final round of group games.  The teams now have an idea of what they need to do in order to qualify.  Group B sees Nigeria sitting top on 6 points, with Madagascar somewhat surprisingly in second place on 4 points.

That leaves Burundi, who have yet to get off the mark and Guinea, who have 1 point, with a must win game on the 30th June.  That match will take place at the Al Salam Stadium, Cairo.

Burundi knew they were always going to find qualification tough from this group and so it has proved. They are participating in their first Africa Cup of Nations and despite losing both matches to date, have not been easy to beat.

They lost their opening game 1-0 to Nigeria, with the winning goal coming in the 77th minute.  However, the 1-0 loss to Madagascar is the one that has hurt the most, with the goal coming in the 76th minute.

Things are not going to get any easier against a Guinea team desperate to seal the win and progress in the competition.  Burundi have won only one of their last thirteen matches in all competitions.  They have lost each of their last three and have failed to keep a clean sheet in their last seven.  Burundi have scored 3 goals across their last five games.

Guinea were expected to progress from this group in second place but were held to a surprise 2-2 draw in their opening match against Madagascar. Despite having taken the lead in the game, Guinea allowed their opponents back into the match and fell 2-1 behind on the 55th minute.  A 66th minute penalty saw them draw level but they failed to go and win the game.

The second match was always going to be tough against the group favourites, Nigeria.  It was a close contest for much of the 90 minutes but Kenneth Omeruo made the difference for Nigeria in the 73rd minute.

Trends show Guinea have failed to win any of their last seven games in all competitions.  They have lost three of their last four and have kept just one clean sheet in the last seven.  Guinea have seen under 2.5 goals in nine of their last eleven matches.

Team news and Burundi may look to make some changes in both formation and attack.  They need to score a goal if they are to have any chance of progressing and that could see Saido Berahinho and Amissi Mohamed both start up-front.

Guinea will be hoping midfielder Naby Keita is fit to start the match and could remain on the pitch for the full 90 minutes.

Guinea are the favourites to win this game and they have the better team on paper.  However, we could see few goals in this game and Guinea to win and under 2.5 goals is a likely outcome.
