Nagoya Grampus hoping to improve top-three chances against S-Pulse

The J-League is still in its early stages, with just 15 matches gone in the campaign so far. There is still plenty of time for teams to achieve their objectives in Japan’s top-flight.

Two teams with very different objectives in the league this season at the moment are Nagoya Grampus and Shimizu S-Pulse. The pair meet on Saturday morning, as the home side look to move back into the AFC Champions League spots and the visitors look to move away from the relegation zone.

Despite a four-game winless in the J-League, Nagoya Grampus are still fifth-place in the table, and just two points off the top-three and a place in the Champions League qualification spots. The home side are also still only eight points behind leaders FC Toyko, so could still be outsiders for the title.

Their recent league games have not been great entertainment for the fans, as eight of their last nine matches have produced under 2.5 goals. Part of those low-scoring games is the fact that the home side are so strong defensive on home soil, having conceded just once in their last six league games in the J-League.

As Nagoya Grampus look up, visitors Shimizu S-Pulse are looking nervously over their shoulders at the relegation zone. They are currently outside the drop zone by just one point. However, it could have been worse for the visitors, as a recent four-game unbeaten run has ensured they are not in the drop zone.

S-Pulse have a recent history over beating leading teams in the J-League, as last time out, they defeated Yokohama Marinos 3-2.

One major positive heading into this game for the visitors is that they have lost just once in their last six meetings with the home side.

However, Forebet predicts that the home side will improve their recent poor record by recording a victory in a low-scoring clash.
