The 2019 Africa Cup of Nations begins on Friday 21st July in Egypt.  There are 24 teams in total taking part making it the biggest tournament in the history of the competition.

Group E features Tunisia, Mali, Mauritania and Angola.  The first game of the group takes place on the 24th June and is between Tunisia and Angola.

Tunisia are the top seeds in the group and the favourites to progress as group winners. They came through in first place during their qualifying campaign, above the hosts Egypt.  Tunisia won five and lost one of their six qualifying matches, giving them one of the best records of any country in the tournament.

Trends show Tunisia have won eight of their last eleven games in all competitions including four of the last five.  The most recent wins have come at home against Eswatini in Africa Cup of Nations qualifying plus friendly games against Iraq, Croatia and Burundi.  The win in Croatia was a good result.

Tunisia have been scoring plenty of goals recently and have netted 2 or more goals in nine of their last thirteen matches in all competitions.  That run includes games against Belgium and England in the 2018 World Cup plus matches against Panama, Niger and Egypt.

Having reached the quarter-final in three of their last four attempts, Tunisia will be feeling confident about winning this game.

Angola on the other hand have failed to get beyond the quarter-final of the Africa Cup of Nations since they hosted it in 2010. They were eliminated in the first round in 2012 and 2013 and then failed to qualify in 2015 and 2017.

They were involved in an exciting qualifying group which they eventually won, finishing above Mauritania on head-to-head goal difference.  Burkina Faso came third, only 2 points behind, which highlights just how close it was at the end.

Angola won four of their group games, defeating Botswana, Burkina Faso and Mauritania at home plus Botswana away.  Trends show they have played only one game since their final qualifying match due to their withdrawal from the Cosafa Cup.  Angola defeated Guinea-Bissau 2-0 in a friendly.

Preparation has not been great following the withdrawal from the Cosafa Cup and Angola could come into this game less prepared than their opponents.

Team news and Tunisia are expected to line-up in a 4-3-3 formation with Taha Yassine Khenissi playing as the central striker.  Naïm Sliti presents a goal threat from midfield.

Angola will be relying on Lazio defender Bastos to organise the defence and help keep Tunisia at bay.  Fredy Kulembé and Gelson Dala could play in attack, both of whom play their club football in Portugal.

Tunisia will see this as a must-win game if they want to top the group.  The north African nation have been in good form in the lead-up to the tournament and could score a couple of goals on their way to victory.
