Peru and Brazil meet at the Arena Corinthians on Saturday, level at the top of Group A with 4 points each.

A draw would see both sides qualify for the quarter-finals however Brazil will be searching for a win in order to make a mark on their home tournament.

Peru and Brazil were favorites to advance from Group A before the tournament began and will now go head to head to determine who will top the group.

Brazil have been below par so far and were booed off the pitch after a goalless draw with Venezuela in their previous match.

They will feel very hard done by not to have come away with 3 points against Venezuela. In a totally dominant display, Brazil had the ball in the back of the net 3 times.

In the first half, Roberto Firmino thought he had given his side the lead but was adjudged to have pulled down a defender in the process.

Philippe Countinho’s late strike looked to have sent Brazil through to the last 8 but VAR, having already denied a Gabriel Jesus effort, showed a foul in the build-up.

Despite having 19 attempts on Venezuela’s goal throughout the match, Brazil only managed 1 shot on target.

Peru picked up their first 2019 Copa America win with a 3-1 victory over Bolivia in their last match. They came from behind to claim 3 points and almost guarantee them a quarter-final spot.

After conceding an early penalty, 35-year-old striker Paolo Guerrero drew Peru level; taking the ball past the goalkeeper and firing home just before half time.

Another veteran, Jefferson Farfan, made it 2-1 with a header 10 minutes into the second half before substitute Edison Flores sealed the victory with a neat chip in injury-time.

Overall, Brazil have beaten Peru 31 times with Peru claiming just 4 victories over their neighbors. History points towards a comfortable win for Brazil but recent performances suggest otherwise.

Brazil will be desperate to get the country behind the team. The fans have made their feelings heard in their opening two matches and anything other than a win against Peru would further boost their frustrations.

With that being said, Brazil will be fired up for this match and should top Group A.
