Flamengo to heap pressure on Alagoano

Flamengo to heap pressure on Alagoano
1926

Flamengo take a three-match unbeaten streak into their midweek clash with Alagoano. The visitors will be buoyed by a nil-nil draw over the weekend against Fluminense which pushed them to five matches without a loss in their last six games.

The Brazilian Serie A season has not started well for Alagoano. Manager Marcel Cabo’s side has found life in the top flight of Brazilian football to be difficult.

Alagoano were promoted with a second-place finish in last season’s Serie B. Although they started decently this season, they have now lost two straight matches and only have six points from 24 to show for their play.

Flamengo have tallied the joint-second most goals in the Serie A this term with 13. Gabriel Barbosa and Bruno Henrique have tallied four goals apiece in the league. Manager Jorge Jesus has a team capable of scoring goals despite the Brazilian Serie A featuring plenty of games with low-scoring finishes.

Five of Flamengo’s eight matches this season have seen over 2.5 goals scored. Jesus’ team wears down their opponents and 30.77% of Flamengo’s goals have come in the final 15 minutes of the first half while 23.08% have come in the last quarter of an hour of matches.

Algoano may have achieved promotion last term, but scoring goals against top flight defences has been a major issue. Cabo has watched his team go impotent in front of goal scoring just three times in eight matches. Carlinhos, Maranhao, and Matheus Savio have all tallied one goal apiece.

Five times this season Algoano have seen their matches end with under 2.5 goals scored. Unfortunately, their last two matches have seen over 2.5 goals scored with Alagoano losing both fixtures.

These teams have not met in recent time and their midweek fixture will be their first Serie A match. Based on form, Alagoano will struggle against Flamengo, but could keep the scoreline low with rugged defensive work.

Flamengo’s away form has been awful and they are yet to win on the road this term. Just two points from 12 have been compiled on their travels. Flamengo are coming off of an away nil-nil draw to Fluminense.

Algoano have lost just once at home posting a 1W-2D-1L record. They were defeated by Botafogo last weekend 2-1 at home.

Flamengo should turn around their away fortunes in midweek when they visit Algoano. The fixture should see under 2.5 goals scored as the visitors pick up their first victory away from home this term.
