Scotland to get Euro 2020 back on track against Cyprus

Scotland to get Euro 2020 back on track against Cyprus
1782

On Saturday night, Scotland host Cyprus at Hampden Park in Group I of qualifying for the European Championships.

Scotland head into this clash with a new coach at the helm in the shape of former Kilmarnock boss Steve Clarke. The home side head into this clash in decent form having recorded wins in three of their last four international games.

The home side have also been relatively prolific of late, scoring at least two goals in all three of those aforementioned victories.

They have made a mixed start to qualifying for Euro 2020, though, as they kicked off their campaign with an embarrassing 3-0 defeat in Kazakhstan before a 2-0 home win over San Marino.

Their recent record in qualifying for the European Championships is an inconsistent one, but two wins from their last seven qualifiers is less than impressive. They have however scored at least two goals in four of their last five qualifiers.

Scotland’s recent home qualifiers have been high-scoring too, with their last three games producing over 2.5 goals.

Cyprus head into this clash with a poor recent record in the international game, as they have won just two of their last 15 matches.

Like Scotland, the visitors sit on three points in the group after two games. They followed a 5-0 win over San Marino their group opener with a 2-0 home defeat against Belgium.

Cyprus have a poor record in qualifying for the European Championships, losing four of their last six qualifiers. Their recent qualifiers have at least been good entertainment value, with over 2.5 goals scored in three of their last four qualification matches.

They have won their last two away qualifiers, having suffered defeat in their previous two qualification games on their travels.

Forebet predicts that Scotland will get the upper hand in this clash, by recording a victory in a low-scoring clash.
