Cruzeiro Look to Kick Start Season Against Corinthians

Cruzeiro Look to Kick Start Season Against Corinthians
1847

The Brazilian Serie A continues this weekend and the league table is beginning to take shape. On Saturday 8th June we have a game between Cruzeiro and Corinthians at the Estádio Governador Magalhães Pinto in Belo Horizonte.

The hosts find themselves in the bottom half of the table and need a win if they want to move away from the relegation zone. Corinthians start the weekend in 9th place on 11 points, which is 4 more than their opponents.

Cruzeiro have failed to win any of their last seven games in all competitions. They played Fluminense at home in the Copa do Brasil in mid-week and needed a penalty shoot out to progress to the next round.  The match ended 2-2.

That means Cruzeiro have drawn three and lost four of their last seven matches in all competitions. Trends show Cruzeiro have won two of their seven league games this season and have failed to win any of the last four. They picked up just a single point in the last four matches and that was a draw at Sao Paulo last time out.

Home form shows five wins in their last seven league matches but they lost their last home game 2-1 at the hands of Chapecoense.

Corinthians did not do as well as their opponents in the Copa do Brasil in mid-week and slumped to a 1-0 defeat at Flamengo which sees them eliminated from the competition. However, that was their first loss in five matches, with Corinthians winning each of the previous four.

There were wins over Deportivo Lara and Sao Paulo at home and Atletico PR and Deportivo Lara away.

Trends show Corinthians are undefeated in their last five league games.  There have been wins against Chapecoense and Sao Paulo at home plus Atletico PR away. The other two games ended level against Vasco da Gama away and Gremio at home.

Away form shows five defeats in their last seven league matches although they are undefeated in their last two, picking up a draw and a win. Corinthians have scored in each of their last three away league games.

Looking ahead to the team news and Cruzeiro will be without Luis Manuel Orejuela who has a long term knee injury. Edilson is also a doubt in defence and it will be interesting to see if Fred can get off the mark this season playing up-front.

Corinthians are likely to be without Fessin and Rene Junior who have been suffering from a shin and knee injury respectively. Fagner is recovering from a thigh injury and could return for this game.

Cruzeiro and in poor form and Corinthians will be hoping to continue their improved away performances with a win. We could see Corinthians come away with maximum points in a game with under 2.5 goals.
