Barcelona to Rest Stars in Vigo

The La Liga title race came to an end last weekend as Barcelona wrapped up the title with a 1-0 home win over Levante.  They cannot be caught at the top of the table and on Saturday night they travel to the Abanca-Balaídos to play Celta Vigo.

The hosts still have something to play for this season and are in danger of being relegated. Despite being in 15th place in the league, they are only 2 points clear of the relegation zone so a win is crucial.

Celta Vigo have been in good form recently and trends show they have lost only one of their last seven La Liga matches. There have been wins over Villarreal, Real Sociedad and Girona plus draws against Huesca, Espanyol and Leganes. The defeat came at Atletico Madrid.

Celta Vigo have won each of their last three home matches and have scored 8 goals across those three games. The only negative aspect has been their defence and they have failed to keep a clean sheet in their last four at home and just once in their last eight home matches.

There have been over 2.5 goals in their last three home games and Celta Vigo have seen over 2.5 goals in six of their last eight matches on home soil.

Barcelona make the trip to Vigo having produced an excellent 3-0 win over Liverpool in the Champions League. They came under pressure at times as Liverpool swarmed forward looking for the crucial away goal but kept their nerve to secure a big win.

That result means Barcelona have won each of their last five games in all competitions and trends show they have remained undefeated in their last thirteen games in all competitions.  Their only loss in their last twenty four matches has come in the Supercopa Catalunya against Girona.

Barcelona are undefeated in their last twenty-three La Liga games and their last fourteen away from home. However, two of the last three have ended in draws. That being said, Barcelona have been scoring goals for fun on the road and they have netted 4 goals in three of their last six away La Liga matches.

Team news and Celta Vigo will be without Okay Yokuslu who is suspended. Emre Mor and Brais Méndez are in contention but David Junca will miss out due to injury.

Barcelona may choose to rest players with the second leg of the Champions League semi-final to play on Tuesday night. Lionel Messi, Luis Suarez, Ivan Rakitic, Gerard Pique, Jordi Alba and Marc-André ter Stegen could be among those to miss out.

If Barcelona are to rest their leading players, this will give Celta Vigo a chance. However, that remains an ‘if’ and should they turn up with a strong starting XI, you have to expect an away win.
