Champions League Chase Continues for Atalanta
3501

There are two matches to look forward to in Serie A on Monday night, one of which sees Atalanta welcome Udinese to the Stadio Atleti Azzurri d'Italia.

The home team are in contention to qualify for the Champions League this season and they begin the weekend level on points with 4th place AC Milan.  A win here could see them move into the top four and the fans will be dreaming.

Udinese have a battle of their own to fight as they face the possibility of relegation to Serie B.  They are currently 4 points clear of the final relegation spot and every point is precious from now until the end of the season.

Atalanta come into this game brimming with confidence following their 2-1 win over Fiorentina in mid-week which saw them progress to the Coppa Italia final.  Lazio will be their opponents and Atalanta will fancy their chances of success.

That win came on the back of another big result as they won 2-1 at Napoli in Serie A last weekend to keep their hopes of Champions League football next season alive.

Trends show Atalanta are undefeated in their last eight Serie A matches and in eight of their last nine home league games.  Both teams have scored in seven of their last eight home Serie A matches and Atalanta have scored 2 or more goals in four of their last seven on home soil.

Udinese picked up a point in a 1-1 draw at home with Sassuolo last weekend.  That result ended a run of two games without a point following defeats at Lazio and Roma, two difficult away games.

The bad news for Udinese is their away form is terrible and trends show they have won only two of their last twenty-four away league matches.  They have lost six of their last seven on the road and have failed to score a goal in seven of their last ten away Serie A games.

In fact, Udinese have struggled to come close in some of their recent away matches, losing by 2 or more goals in three of their last five which does not bode well ahead of this tricky encounter.

Team news and Atalanta are monitoring the fitness of Rafael Toloi and Marco Varnier who are trying to recover from an ankle and knee injury respectively.  Josip Ilicic is the key man for Atalanta and he should start the game in attacking midfield.

Udinese travel without Valon Behrami and Antonin Barak who are not expected to be back in action until next season.  Seko Fofana has a muscle injury and is struggling to make it.

There appears to be only one winner from this game.  Atalanta are flying and the momentum is certainly with the home team.  They should come out on top and win by a clear margin of 2 goals or more.
